The Casal

Casal Català de Zúric (Catalan Association of Zurich) is an organization with more than 60 years of history that was founded to be the meeting point for Catalans in the Zurich area and that continues to be so, for the support it offers to new emigration and for the cultural promotion and organization of events and traditional festivals. The Casal works thanks to the efforts of all the organized members who support the Board.

In 1963, Casa Nostra de Suïssa (CNS) was founded, an association of Catalan-speaking people in Switzerland, the Casal Català de Zúric is its heir.

Carles Gallifa Puig

president

In 2015, when I first arrived in Switzerland, the book club was my gateway to the Casal. Since then, I have always been involved with the Casal in one way or another and, little by little, I have come to know its different faces, its members, all the possibilities and potential of this community. The Casal is what the members want it to be and I, as president, am eager to help you grow it.

Anna Mir

vice president and secretary

I arrived in Zurich on October 2, 2017. The political situation of the time, combined with the nerves of a life change, marked that autumn. It didn’t take me long to find a community with whom I could understand myself and share opinions and feelings.
At home we have always followed all the Catalan traditions, any excuse is a good one to celebrate. In 2019 I joined the board as a member. As vice president, I want to make you feel at home, enjoying a good meal and our culture!

Mercè Juliachs

member

I arrived in the city in 2020, in the midst of a pandemic and with a little one about to be born. All of this made integration difficult and when the Casal restarted its activities we immediately joined in. I come from an environment with a very strong associative fabric and I really wanted to do my bit to energize and maintain this atmosphere in Zurich. I hope to help organize activities that make us feel close to home and create a familiar and warm space to meet, share and welcome those who have just arrived.

Judith Bergadà

member

Motivated by love and to live an adventure with the excuse of temporarily studying abroad, I came to live in Zurich in 2016. Years later, I am still here and being part of the Casal helps me feel close to home and follow the Catalan traditions that I miss.
I joined the Board during the pandemic and since becoming a mother, I value the spirit of the Casal even more and all the projects that are carried out to teach the little ones our language and our festivals.

Quim Llimona

treasurer

After an adventure in Canada, my wife and I arrived in Zurich in 2017. We immediately became regulars at the Casal parties. In 2022 I joined the Board (I had already been collaborating for many years anyway), and some time later I took over the Treasury. You can find me at events and excursions, and at the General Assemblies, where I will summarize in a completely transparent way what the Casal has done (and spent) during the year.

Xavier Garcia Tormo

member
(treasurer of Castellers de Zürich)

I arrived in Switzerland in October 2011, to work at the University of Bern. After a job change, I moved to Zurich in April 2020, in the midst of the pandemic. When I learned at the beginning of 2024 that a Colla castellera was being formed in Zurich, I actively participated in the project from the very beginning. In May 2025, I joined the Junta del Casal to help spread the castells and Catalan culture in general in Zurich.

Jordi Cluet i Martinell

member
(president of Castellers de Zürich)

My life in Switzerland began in Lausanne, in the summer of 2022. I immediately integrated into the Catalan community and, through the CCL, participated in the Castellers de Lausanne. A year later, I moved to Zurich where, again, I found family in the Casal and co-founded the Castellers de Zurich.
In March 2024, I joined the Board, to do my bit to bring our culture and language closer and spread and make us feel a little closer to home.

And you, are you up for it?

Write to us or come talk about it at one of our events!
